Kano board orders closure of Gala Houses, DJ activities as Ramadan begins
The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the closure of entertainment venues known as “Gala houses” and suspended all disc jockey (DJ) activities across Kano State to mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
The directive, which takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, was issued in a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, on behalf of Chairman Abba El-Mustapha.
According to the board, the measure is intended to foster a peaceful environment for worship during Ramadan. The reopening schedule, particularly in time for Eid celebrations, will be announced later.
> “Stakeholders are urged to comply with this directive in line with the law establishing the agency. The suspension is part of our mandate to regulate entertainment activities in the state,” the statement read.
The board also prayed for Allah to grant residents good health, peace in their worship, and mercy and prosperity throughout the holy month.
