Motorcyclist swept Away by flood in Lagos, body recovered in Ogun
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 60-year-old motorcyclist, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, who was swept away by floodwaters following a heavy downpour along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in the Alakuko area of Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on May 20, 2025, when the victim reportedly lost control of his motorcycle during the torrential rain and was carried away by the flood.
Hundeyin explained that while Adeniran’s motorcycle was recovered the same evening around 6 p.m., efforts to locate his body extended into the next morning. His remains were eventually discovered around 9 a.m. on May 21, at the Obasanjo River in neighbouring Ota, Ogun State.
Police detectives promptly visited both the site of the incident and the location where the body was recovered for preliminary investigations, and photographs of the scene were taken as part of the inquiry.
The Command said the victim’s body has since been deposited in a public morgue for autopsy, while investigations continue.
Extending its sympathies to the bereaved family, the police also urged members of the public to exercise caution during heavy rainfall, especially in flood-prone areas.
