NiMet forecasts Sunny, Cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms in Southern Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued its weather outlook for the week, predicting sunny and cloudy conditions across the northern region, with intermittent thunderstorms expected in parts of the south.
According to NiMet, the northern states will experience mostly sunny skies throughout the forecast period, while the southern region will see sunny intervals with patches of clouds. Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rain are expected over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet anticipates sunny and hazy skies in the northern and central regions, while the southern region may experience morning thunderstorms and light rainfall over Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
On Wednesday, sunny and hazy conditions are expected in the northern region, with dust haze likely in the afternoon and evening. The central region will also experience sunny and hazy skies, while the south may see cloudy intervals and isolated thunderstorms over Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.
NiMet warned that dust particles are currently in suspension over the North-Central region and urged residents, especially those with asthma or respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.
The agency also advised motorists to exercise caution while driving in rainy conditions and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for operational planning. Residents are encouraged to stay updated via NiMet’s official channels at www.nimet.gov.ng.
