NiMet forecasts dust haze, cloudy skies nationwide
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread dust haze and cloudy conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, with varying intensity across the regions.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, NiMet said the northern region will experience moderate dust haze throughout Monday, while the central region is expected to witness thick dust haze during the forecast period.
According to the agency, inland cities in the southern region will also experience moderate dust haze.
NiMet added that coastal areas will see sunny skies with patches of clouds, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall later in the day over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
For Tuesday, the agency forecast moderate dust haze over the northern and central regions, as well as over inland cities in the southern region. Coastal states are expected to record sunny conditions with cloud patches, alongside possible isolated thunderstorms and light rains in parts of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, NiMet projected thick dust haze across the northern region, while the central region will continue to experience moderate dust haze. Dusty conditions are also anticipated over southern inland cities, with sunny skies and cloud patches forecast over coastal areas.
The agency warned that dust particles remain suspended in the air, advising members of the public to take necessary health precautions. People living with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be particularly cautious.
NiMet also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall, while airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency to ensure safe and effective flight planning.
Residents were urged to stay updated by following NiMet’s regular weather bulletins via its official website.
