NSCDC confiscates 266 bags of precious stones in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has seized 266 bags of precious stones from illegal miners operating across the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Nyako Amidu Baba, disclosed that the confiscated materials were recovered from Dumne, Song, and Michika Local Government Areas during recent enforcement operations.
According to the NSCDC, the haul includes 225 bags of fluorite and 41 bags of monazite, all extracted through unauthorized mining activities.
“To address the rising threat of illegal mining, the state commandant, ID Bande, took proactive measures by retraining 100 personnel as mining marshals, who are now tasked with patrolling mining sites across the state,” he said.
He said, “A significant display of the recovered minerals was also showcased to underscore the severity of the illegal activities and the scale of the operation.
“This initiative highlights the NSCDC’s commitment to tackling environmental degradation, loss of revenue, and the destruction of valuable ecosystems caused by illegal mining.
“The command has vowed to continue its operations against illicit mining, with plans to further enhance surveillance and enforcement in mining areas throughout the state.”
Bande urged local communities to actively collaborate by reporting illegal activities and advised members of the public to refrain from engaging in unlawful mining practices.
