NUJ FCT 2025 Press Week set to begin with exciting line-up of events
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, is set to begin its 2025 Press Week, a week-long series of events aimed at celebrating journalism and promoting press freedom.
Secretary of Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle stated in a release on Thursday that this year’s edition will run from Friday, 18th July to Friday, 25th July 2025, and promises a variety of meaningful and engaging activities for journalists and members of the public. The official theme for the week is “Journalism in a Changing World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy & Society.”
The Press Week will bring together journalists, media professionals, and industry stakeholders to discuss key issues facing the profession, explore ways to uphold ethical standards, and reflect on the evolving role of the press in a democratic society.
The programme kicks off on Friday, 18th July, with Muslim prayers at NASFAT Mosque in Utako by 2:00 pm. On Saturday, 19th July, a Free Medical Check-up for journalists will be held at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako, starting at 9:00 am.
Activities continue on Sunday, 20th July, with a Thanksgiving Church Service at Word Harvest Church, Jikwoyi, at 9:00 am. On Monday, 21st July, a symbolic Walk for Press Freedom will begin at 7:00 am from the VIO Office at Berger Roundabout.
The main highlight of the week is the Public Lecture on Tuesday, 22nd July, at the Borno Rivers Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, starting at 9:00 am.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), H.E. Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON,
While the Guest Speaker is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, H.E. Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON.
The event will be chaired by Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Nasarawa State.
On Thursday, 24th July, there will be a day dedicated to Community Service and the Inauguration of Press Clubs.
The week will round off in style with a Grand Finale and Jeans Party at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako, taking place from 3:00 pm on Friday, 25th July.
The NUJ FCT Council invites all journalists, media workers, and members of the public to join in the activities. The Council remains committed to defending press freedom, supporting media professionalism, and ensuring the welfare of journalists across the territory.
