Police probe death of Law School student allegedly barred from final exam

The Adamawa State Police Command has provided fresh clarifications on the tragic death of a Nigerian Law School student, Ojajuni Ayomiposi, amid widespread reports suggesting he committed suicide after being barred from writing his final bar examination at the Yola Campus.

In a statement released late Sunday and signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Nguroje, the police confirmed the incident and announced that a full-scale investigation has commenced.

According to the police account, the Command received a report from the institution’s Chief Security Officer on December 7, detailing that the 27-year-old student returned to the campus on December 6 at about 11:30 am in a tricycle. He was said to be visibly staggering before he suddenly jumped over the fence into the hostel premises.

A security guard who went to check on him reportedly found the student vomiting and lying unconscious. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted but later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a discreet and thorough probe to determine what truly transpired and to establish whether foul play or self-harm was involved.

The tragedy has sparked multiple accounts on social media and within the campus community. Initial reports claimed Ayomiposi ingested a harmful substance—suspected to be rat poison—after he was prevented from writing the bar examination which commenced on December 6.

Other accounts alleged he was denied entry into the examination hall for failing to respond to queries issued earlier by the school and for not meeting the mandatory 75% attendance requirement, which would have automatically disqualified him from sitting the exam.

Authorities say all angles are being thoroughly examined to uncover the real circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
