Sen Odey expresses gratitude to President Tinubu, Gov Otu, Education Minister as he joins governing council of NTI
The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, has expressed profound appreciation to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu, and the Minister of Education, Dr M. O. Alausa, following his appointment and inauguration as a Member of the Governing Council of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI).
The inauguration, held on 27 November 2025 at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, officially confirmed Senator Professor Odey as the South–South representative on the NTI Governing Council—an institution charged with providing strategic direction, oversight, and support for teacher development across Nigeria.
In a statement issued shortly after the ceremony, Senator Professor Odey described the appointment as a great honour and a significant national responsibility.
“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr M. O. Alausa, for finding me worthy to serve our nation in yet another capacity as a Member of the Governing Council of the National Teachers’ Institute,” he said.
He noted that the trust reposed in him reflects the broad reforms and transformation currently reshaping the education sector in Cross River State under Governor Bassey Otu’s leadership.

“There is no doubt that this appointment is a reflection of the remarkable reforms and positive transformation taking place in the education sector in Cross River State. I wholeheartedly acknowledge that the credit for this recognition goes to His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, who entrusted me with the responsibility to serve and has consistently provided the encouragement and support necessary to implement impactful, far-reaching reforms now attracting commendation from the Federal Government,” he added.
Senator Professor Odey further pledged his full commitment to the task ahead, assuring that he would work closely with other distinguished members of the Governing Council and Board to deliver on the mandate of the Institute.
“I hereby assure Mr President, my Governor, and the Honourable Minister of Education that I will work collaboratively with other distinguished Governing Council and Board Members to diligently and effectively deliver on this national assignment,” he affirmed.
His appointment has been widely regarded as a testament to Cross River State’s rising profile in educational excellence and teacher development nationwide.
