Shettima arrives in Bauchi for Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s burial
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday arrived in Bauchi State to attend the burial of prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died earlier in the week.
Shettima landed at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, where he was received by Governor Bala Mohammed and other top government officials before proceeding to the residence of the late cleric.
Large crowds of mourners gathered in the state capital as sympathisers, religious leaders, and followers of the Tijjaniyya movement converged to pay their final respects. The Bauchi State Government had earlier declared Friday a work-free day to enable residents to participate fully in the funeral proceedings.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, aged 100, was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars, with thousands of disciples across the country. His passing has drawn tributes from political, traditional, and religious leaders nationwide.
The funeral prayer was scheduled to hold at his residence in Bauchi, in line with Islamic rites, with dignitaries expected from across Nigeria.
Shettima’s visit underscores the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the late scholar’s significant contributions to religious education and national unity.
