Tinubu to inaugurate projects, attend Argungu Festival in Kebbi
President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday embark on a one-day official visit to Kebbi State, where he is expected to inaugurate projects executed by Governor Nasir Idris.
The President will also headline the 61st edition of the 2026 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival as Special Guest of Honour, according to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Celebrating Heritage and Unity
The Argungu Festival is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most historic and celebrated cultural events. It attracts participants and tourists from across the country and beyond, marking the end of the farming season with displays of tradition, unity and community spirit.
The festival is staged along the riverside of the historic Matan Fada in Argungu. The site has received global recognition from UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
First held in 1934 as a peace-building initiative between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom, the festival has evolved into a major tourism and cultural showcase, featuring fishing competitions, traditional music, wrestling and other cultural displays.
First Presidential Visit to Kebbi
Saturday’s trip will mark President Tinubu’s first official visit to Kebbi State since assuming office.
The visit is expected to draw dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts and political stakeholders, further underscoring the significance of the festival in Nigeria’s cultural calendar.
