WAEC Defends 2026 WASSCE Results, Rejects Social Media Claims

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, dismissing unverified claims questioning their accuracy.

The examination body said the results were produced through rigorous, transparent and quality-assured processes that have guided its operations for decades.

WAEC’s reaction followed what it described as a wave of commentary from content creators and social media users challenging the credibility of the recently released results.

In a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council said it welcomed genuine scrutiny but urged the public to distinguish legitimate concerns from unverified claims.

WAEC said the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in line with its established operational procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Council explained that every candidate’s script undergoes multiple stages of marking, moderation and auditing, using standardised marking schemes and vetted subject experts to ensure fairness and consistency.

It acknowledged that candidates and parents could naturally feel anxious about examination results, particularly when students are preparing for the next stage of their education.

However, the examination body urged the public to verify information before accepting or sharing claims circulating on social media.

WAEC also said it has established procedures for candidates and other members of the public to submit queries or seek clarification concerning examination results.

The Council reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of its assessment process and the interests of candidates.

It advised anyone with concerns about the 2026 WASSCE results to approach WAEC directly through its offices or verified communication channels rather than relying on unverified social media reports.
