Zamfara mourns as Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, dies at 71
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has confirmed the death of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on Friday morning in Abuja at the age of 71 after battling a prolonged illness.
The governor, in a statement released by his spokesperson and Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sulaiman Idris, expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s demise, describing it as a personal loss and a significant blow to the state and the nation.
“The late Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, was a supportive royal father and a capable leader who dedicated himself to making Zamfara State better,” the governor stated. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau emirate, the royal family, and the people of the state.
Lawal noted that the royal father spent a decade on the throne, having been installed as the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015. He praised the late monarch’s unwavering commitment, dedication, and spiritual leadership throughout his reign.
Before ascending the throne, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello served as a distinguished civil servant, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto and Zamfara State governments.
“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me and other state leaders,” Governor Lawal added. “May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah.”
