2027 is a done deal for APC, says Ganduje as more defections hit opposition parties

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday declared that the 2027 general elections were already a “done deal,” as the party vowed to win all off-season elections leading up to it.
The National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, made this bold statement while receiving defectors from the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Senator Kawu Ismaila, the lawmaker representing Kano South.
Ganduje also disclosed that the party was expecting more governors from opposition parties to switch to the APC, following the recent defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, along with his cabinet, state assembly members, and political allies.
Among the new defectors from Kano are notable figures including Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who represents Rano/Kibiya in the Federal House of Representatives; Hon. Abdullahi Sani Rogo; Rt. Hon. Zubairu Hamza Massu, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly; Dr. A B. Baffa Bichi, former Secretary to the State Government; and several other former commissioners and lawmakers from the state.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the defectors, Ganduje reaffirmed the party’s confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, economic reforms, and Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that part of the agenda involves attracting more followers to the APC.
He pointed to recent electoral victories and defections as signs of the party’s growing influence. “We started by democratically electing governors, like in Edo State, and now Delta has joined. Even prominent PDP figures, including a former vice presidential candidate, are joining our party,” Ganduje said. “I don’t want to reveal all our strategies, but I can assure you that for APC, 2027 is a done deal.”
When asked about possible defections of other state governors, Ganduje confidently replied, “More governors are coming into the APC, I assure you. And wherever elections hold, by God’s grace, APC will win.”
In his remarks, Senator Kawu said the move represents a coming together of like minds from the NNPP in Kano. He also highlighted his political strength by referring to the 2023 general election results, urging reporters to compare his performance against NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s.
According to Kawu, the numbers from the presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections from the same polling units speak volumes about his political value to the APC.
