Seville ends Jamaica’s 10-Year wait for World 100m Gold

Oblique Seville stormed to victory in the men’s 100m final at the World Championships in Tokyo on Sunday, securing Jamaica’s first world sprint title in a decade. Seville clocked a personal best of 9.77 seconds to claim gold, ahead of compatriot Kishane Thompson, who took silver in 9.82 seconds.

Defending champion Noah Lyles of the United States settled for bronze with a time of 9.89 seconds.

The triumph marks Jamaica’s first world 100m crown since sprint legend Usain Bolt won the 100m and 200m double at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. Bolt, an 11-time world champion and an avid supporter of Seville and Thompson, had predicted a Jamaican 1-2 finish in the race.

His prediction came true, and the track icon erupted in cheers from the stands as his compatriots crossed the finish line. The celebrations continued as Bob Marley’s “Buffalo Soldier” rang out in the stadium, with Jamaican fans rejoicing and Seville celebrating by tearing open his sprint suit in jubilation.

The victory cements Seville’s place among the world’s elite sprinters and reaffirms Jamaica’s dominance in the 100m sprint.
