BREAKING: Super Eagles chances brighten as FIFA sanctions South Africa in WCQ
FIFA has docked South Africa three points in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers after the team was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.
The sanction, confirmed by the world football governing body on Monday, came after Bafana Bafana included Teboho Mokoena in their squad against Lesotho in March despite his ineligibility.
In addition to the points deduction, FIFA has also removed three goals from South Africa’s tally, further denting their qualification hopes.
This represents a significant boost for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who still harbour hopes of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
