Tinubu, Senate mourn Abba Moro’s Son, Grandson killed in tragic incidents
President Bola Tinubu and members of the Nigerian Senate have extended their condolences to Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, following the death of his son and grandson.
Victor Moro, the senator’s son, died in a car crash along the Mararaba axis of Nasarawa State on October 19, just a day after his father’s grandson was buried. Victor had only recently returned from Turkey, where he completed his studies, to begin his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
During plenary on Tuesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio broke the tragic news to his colleagues, describing it as deeply heartbreaking.
“Distinguished colleagues, we have an unfortunate situation where our minority leader lost two of his children under 48 hours,” Akpabio said. “His son, who just graduated, died in a motor accident in the last few days, and the grandson also passed away through very tragic circumstances.”
Akpabio called for a minute of silence in honour of the deceased, after which the lawmakers agreed to visit Senator Moro’s residence to commiserate with him.
In a condolence message issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu described the loss as a painful tragedy and prayed for God’s comfort upon the bereaved family.
“President Tinubu urges the family to find solace in the impactful lives of the children, whose time on earth, though short, was a blessing to many,” the statement read. The President also prayed for the repose of their souls and divine strength for the family.
Former Senate President David Mark also expressed grief over the incident, describing it as “a devastating reminder of life’s fragility.”
“I received the heartbreaking news with great shock and profound sadness,” Mark said in a statement by his media aide, Paul Mumeh.
“The loss of a child is one of life’s heaviest blows, and I can only imagine the depth of grief this tragedy has brought upon the family. I pray that God grants them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and eternal rest to the departed.”
