The Niger State Government has expressed sadness over a fatal road accident along the Minna–Bida Road, which claimed lives, while denying reports that the vehicle involved was part of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s convoy.

The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nuhu Nana, extended its condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased.

It described the incident as tragic and sympathised with those affected, praying that God would grant the bereaved families the strength to cope with their loss.

Addressing reports linking the accident to the governor’s convoy, the government said the vehicle involved was driven by a Government House staff member who was returning from a trip with other staff members.

According to the statement, the vehicle was not on an official convoy assignment with the governor at the time of the incident.

The government added that preliminary information indicated that the driver had acted recklessly, resulting in the fatal crash. It said other staff members involved in the incident were receiving medical treatment.

While expressing regret over the loss of lives, the government stressed the importance of road safety and urged motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations.

It also called on media organisations and members of the public to verify information before publishing or sharing reports, particularly those linking incidents to the governor or the Government House.

The statement reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of residents, warning that responsible driving remained essential to preventing avoidable road accidents.

The government reiterated its condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims.
