The Niger State Government, under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commenced efforts to remodel the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Smart School, a Federal Government-owned institution designed to provide technology-driven learning.

The school, reportedly the only one of its kind in Niger State, was established to equip pupils with the digital skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The institution was designed to provide students with free computers, internet access, round-the-clock electricity and a fully digital learning environment.

However, the school gradually fell into disrepair, with reports of damaged roofs, obsolete computers and non-functional solar power systems undermining its original purpose.

Recognising the importance of the institution to the state’s education sector, the Bago administration has stepped in to remodel the facility and restore its former standard.

The intervention is part of the state government’s wider efforts to improve educational infrastructure across Niger State.

According to the information provided, the administration has also built more than 1,000 classrooms across the state, while 54 schools are scheduled for complete reconstruction. The government is also pursuing its Bago Mega Schools project.

The planned remodelling of the UBEC Smart School is expected to help restore its digital learning facilities and improve the learning environment for pupils.
