NCDC raises alarm as lassa fever deaths increase in States
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that more people have died from Lassa fever in 2025.
According to the report released this week, over 176 deaths have been recorded across 21 states, which shows the disease is spreading more than expected.
Lassa fever is spread mainly by rats, especially through food or items contaminated by them.
The NCDC advised Nigerians to keep their homes and food storage areas clean, cover food properly, and avoid contact with rats. Hospitals have also been instructed to isolate confirmed cases and begin treatment on time.
Health workers warn that early treatment is very important because the disease becomes harder to treat when symptoms get worse.
The government says it is sending more medical supplies to the affected states and organizing public awareness campaigns.
