Tems wins Best African Music Performance at 67th Grammy Awards

Los Angeles, USA – Nigerian singer Tems has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards for her song Love Me JeJe. The ceremony took place in the early hours of Monday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Tems overcame stiff competition from Nigerian stars such as Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy to claim the prestigious award.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, she said, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.”
She dedicated the win to her mother, whose birthday is the following day, adding, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum.”
Tems also thanked her team, including Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist, and close associates, and concluded with, “To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”
Though she celebrated this victory, Tems did not win in two other nominated categories: Best R&B Song, which went to American singer SZA, and Best Global Music Album, which was awarded to Matt B’s Alkebulan II, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Nigerian artist Rema was also nominated in this category for his album Heis.
This is Tems’ second Grammy Award, having previously won in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her contribution to Wait for U, a global hit by Future featuring Drake.
Her latest achievement further cements her place as a leading figure in global music and highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats on the world stage.
