BREAKING; Court rejects Malami’s bail application, upholds EFCC detention
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has dismissed an application filed by Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, seeking bail from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, the presiding judge, Babangida Hassan, held that Malami’s detention by the anti-graft agency was lawful and supported by a valid court order.
The judge ruled that the EFCC acted within the confines of the law in holding the former minister, noting that the court order authorising his detention remains in force.
Accordingly, the court declined Malami’s request for bail, effectively allowing the EFCC to continue its investigation while keeping him in custody.
Further details on the allegations against Malami were not disclosed during the proceedings.
