Tinubu confers GCON on business mogul, Gilbert Chagoury
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, Sir Gilbert Chagoury.
The national honour, Nigeria’s second highest, was awarded in recognition of Chagoury’s contributions to economic development, infrastructure and philanthropy across the country.
Reacting to the development, billionaire businessman and investor, Femi Otedola, described the honour as well deserved, paying glowing tribute to Chagoury’s legacy and impact.
“Congratulations to my role model, dear friend and mentor, Ambassador Gilbert Chagoury, on the well-deserved GCON honour conferred by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Otedola said.
He hailed Chagoury’s life as a testament to vision, discipline and sustained excellence, noting that his projects have reshaped Nigeria’s urban and economic landscape.
“From Banana Island to Eko Atlantic City, your work speaks in landmarks, jobs and lasting impact. Your leadership has inspired generations of Nigerians to think bigger and act bolder,” he added.
Otedola concluded by celebrating Chagoury’s achievements, describing the national honour as a fitting recognition of decades of commitment to Nigeria’s growth and development.
Chagoury, a Lagos-born Lebanese-Nigerian, co-founded the Chagoury Group in 1971. The conglomerate has interests spanning construction, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, telecommunications and finance, and remains one of the most influential business groups in the country.
