“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public of a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of life has been recorded. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” the statement read.
The affected terminal, popularly known as the old terminal, is currently undergoing rehabilitation by the Federal Government, with N710 billion allocated for the project. As part of the ongoing upgrade, FAAN had earlier relocated some airlines and businesses operating at the terminal to a temporary facility.
The development has raised concerns among passengers and airport users, even as authorities work to bring the situation under control and safeguard critical infrastructure at the nation’s busiest airport.
