NSCDC female officer dies after being crushed by van during drill in Abuja (Video)
A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died following an accident during a “show of force” exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The tragic incident was captured in a viral 58-second video circulating on social media on Saturday. The footage showed two operational vans from the Corps’ Female Strike Force — also called the Female Squad — moving in formation. During a turn, the lead van ran over the officer, pinning her beneath the vehicle.
The video further shows fellow NSCDC officers and bystanders rushing to lift the van and rescue the trapped officer into a waiting ambulance.
While the Corps has not yet released an official statement, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the fatality in a telephone conversation with TheCable. The identity of the deceased officer has not been disclosed. Babawale also noted that a detailed report will be issued to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
The incident underscores the risks involved in operational exercises and is expected to prompt an internal review of safety protocols within the NSCDC.
