NUJ confirms death of Bauchi TV cameraman after auto crash
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has confirmed the death of Bauchi Television Authority cameraman Kabiru Ahmed, 23 days after he was involved in a motor accident while on official duty.
NUJ State Chairman, Umar Sa’id, disclosed this on Sunday in a message shared on journalists’ WhatsApp platforms in Bauchi, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the young media worker.
“We just lost one of our colleagues among the two left in the Teaching Hospital, Kabiru Ahmed. May his soul rest in peace,” he stated.
Sa’id also announced that the funeral prayer for the late cameraman would be held at 2:00 p.m. at Bauchi Central Mosque (Masallacin Fadan Sarkin Bauchi).
According to him, Ahmed’s remains would be conveyed from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital to his family residence in Ilale for burial rites.
The late cameraman was among journalists covering the inauguration and handover of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, when the accident occurred on February 6, 2026.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Ahmed died 17 days after another journalist injured in the same accident, Channels Television cameraman Kani Ben, passed away.
Both journalists died while receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
