The Independent National Electoral Commission has called for intensified voter education ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Obo Effanga, made the call on Monday during a meeting with members of the Directorate of Politics and Governance of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 57, in Uyo.

Effanga said religious institutions play an important role in shaping public opinion and mobilising citizens to participate in democratic processes.

According to him, the involvement of religious organisations in voter education would help strengthen democratic participation and ensure peaceful elections.

He noted that the commission is working with a tight election schedule and requires the support of stakeholders to sensitise the public on electoral procedures.

Effanga urged the church leadership to encourage their members to conduct themselves in a way that promotes peaceful and credible elections.

He also disclosed that the commission would soon begin the revalidation of the voter register to determine the actual number of voters in the country.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Directorate of Politics and Governance of RCCG Region 57 in Akwa Ibom State, Professor Udeme Udofia, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the electoral body.

Udofia explained that the partnership would promote responsible citizenship and credible governance.

He added that the Directorate of Politics and Governance unit of the church was established to provide political education on governance processes, civic responsibility and voter participation among members of the church.
