Turaki-Led PDP faction rejects Wike convention, vows to challenge in Supreme Court
The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the national convention organised by the Nyesom Wike-backed faction, describing it as conducted in contempt of a Court of Appeal judgment.
In a statement signed Monday in Abuja by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the Turaki-led group said the convention disregarded ongoing legal proceedings and an appeal filed at the Supreme Court challenging the appellate ruling.
“We assure genuine PDP members that the Supreme Court will soon adjudicate on the pending appeal,” the statement said.
The faction accused the Wike-backed convention of being a “pre-Easter jamboree of APC sympathisers and members of Wike’s Autocratic Party,” claiming it violated court directives and risked undermining party resolutions. It added that the Supreme Court appeal and related filings had been duly served to all parties involved.
The statement also referenced a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja, which granted Wike’s faction access to the PDP national secretariat and directed security agencies to protect them. The Turaki-led faction said it had immediately instructed lawyers to appeal the judgment.
According to the statement, the current crisis is partly fuelled by the “Bola Tinubu-led APC government,” which the faction accused of attempting to suppress opposition and foist a one-party state due to dissatisfaction with its governance record.
The Turaki-led faction called on members and Nigerians to remain hopeful, saying, “The Supreme Court now has the historic opportunity to uphold and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its earlier decisions on the jurisdiction of courts in internal affairs of political parties.”
