Wike-backed PDP denies alliance talks with ADC, vows legal action
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday strongly rejected reports suggesting it was considering an alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that it may take legal action against those spreading what it described as false claims.
The party said it decided to respond after the speculation began gaining traction ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that it is not in talks with any political group and remains focused on rebuilding itself as a credible alternative.
The factional National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made the position known during the inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. He stated that the PDP is not engaged in any merger or coalition discussions with the ADC or any other political party, stressing that it remains a strong and independent political platform with a clear ambition to regain national leadership.
The party also criticised comments attributed to factional leader Kabiru Taminu Turaki (SAN), describing them as misleading and an attempt to create a false impression that coalition talks were ongoing. It said such claims were deliberate efforts to misinform the public and undermine the party’s integrity, insisting they were entirely unfounded.
Muhammed warned that while the PDP respects freedom of expression, it would not ignore actions capable of damaging its reputation, adding that the party could take legal steps against any conduct that amounts to misrepresentation or contempt of court under existing laws.
Beyond the coalition dispute, the party said it has moved past its internal leadership crisis following months of legal battles, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised and uploaded the names of its national officers, which it described as confirmation of its legitimate leadership. It declared that the era of uncertainty was over and that the party was now firmly anchored on legality and order.
The PDP described its recent national convention as one of the most organised and credible ever conducted by an opposition party, adding that it demonstrated internal discipline and transparency. It also commended security agencies for protecting party property and restoring access to its secretariat in Abuja.
Looking ahead to 2027, the party said it remains focused on presenting ideas, leadership, and solutions to Nigerians, insisting that it is “back, stronger than ever, and ready to lead.”
