Tinubu hosts Chad’s President Déby in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday received the President of Chad, Idriss Déby, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between both nations.

The high-level meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on deepening cooperation in regional security, trade, and economic development, as both leaders explored areas of mutual interest.

The visit comes at a critical time, as President Tinubu is expected to travel to Jos to commiserate with victims of recent attacks in Plateau State.

Nigeria and Chad remain key stakeholders in the Lake Chad Basin, where both countries have maintained close collaboration in addressing insurgency and other cross-border security threats.

Through joint efforts, including regional security initiatives, the two nations continue to play pivotal roles in stabilising the region and tackling challenges posed by armed groups.

Déby’s visit highlights the enduring diplomatic relationship between Abuja and N’Djamena, as well as a shared commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships within the Lake Chad Basin.

The engagement is also seen as part of broader efforts to reinforce multilateral cooperation and promote lasting peace and development across the region.
