2027: Gov Sule endorses Sen. Wadada as preferred successor
Governor Abdullahi Sule has named Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.
The governor described Wadada as the embodiment of the “Muje Maha” spirit, a principle he said has shaped his administration’s style of governance, unity and political inclusiveness.
This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ali Abare, following a meeting with political appointees and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Lafia.
According to the governor, the search for a successor lasted more than one year and involved consultations with investors, youth groups, women organisations, traditional rulers, party leaders and stakeholders across the state’s three senatorial districts.
“We have to look for people who have the capacity to be able to win this election,” Sule said.
He explained that after wide consultations, three aspirants were shortlisted as viable contenders before Senator Wadada eventually emerged as the preferred choice.
Governor Sule also praised aspirants from Nasarawa West Senatorial District for their maturity, noting that they agreed among themselves to support whoever emerged.
He added that the aspirants requested a fair distribution of elective positions between the two federal constituencies in the zone, an arrangement he said he fully supports.
Addressing his appointees, Sule urged them to put aside personal loyalties and unite behind Wadada and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress.
“Now all the support — now all of us, if we are sincere about the so-called Muje Maha, now it is the period that Muje Maha is Wadada,” he said.
The governor also warned supporters against mocking unsuccessful aspirants, stressing that the decision followed careful assessment and that all shortlisted aspirants were capable contenders.
On the 2027 presidential election, Sule expressed confidence that Bola Ahmed Tinubu would perform strongly in Nasarawa State.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the IGP Adamu Campaign Committee on Counter and Mobilisation, Isa Nathaniel, said the endorsement was not surprising, adding that party stakeholders had already agreed to adopt direct primaries for future contests.
