Senator Jarigbe Agom nominated for NUJ FCT Senator of the Year 2026 Award
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has nominated Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, for the prestigious Senator of the Year 2026 Award as part of activities marking the 2026 NUJ FCT Council Press Week.
The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
In a nomination letter jointly signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Obas Esiedesa, the Council stated that the nomination was in recognition of Senator Jarigbe’s outstanding legislative contributions, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of his constituents and the nation at large.
The Council commended the Senator’s dedication to responsive representation, impactful community development initiatives, and consistent advocacy for policies that promote social justice, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth.
According to the NUJ FCT Council, Senator Jarigbe’s legislative engagements and constituency interventions have continued to contribute significantly to democratic governance and national development.
The statement further noted that through his activities in the National Assembly, the lawmaker has demonstrated strong commitment towards strengthening democratic institutions, promoting transparency, and ensuring that the voices of the people of Cross River North Senatorial District are adequately represented in national decision-making processes.
Describing the Senator of the Year Award as one of the flagship honours of the NUJ FCT Press Week, the Council explained that the recognition celebrates public office holders whose integrity, performance, and service have positively advanced democratic governance and national progress in Nigeria.
The organisers added that recipients are carefully selected through informed media assessments and public interest considerations.
This year’s Press Week is themed: “2027 Election: Defending Nigeria’s Democracy in the Age of Disinformation.”
The Council noted that Senator Jarigbe’s commitment to democratic ideals, responsible leadership, and constructive engagement in national discourse strongly aligns with the objectives and values the award seeks to promote.
The NUJ FCT Council congratulated Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe on the nomination and expressed optimism about his participation at the award ceremony in Abuja.
