Ndudi Elumelu to deliver NUJ keynote address in Abuja
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has invited former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, to deliver the keynote address at its 2026 Press Week.
The invitation was contained in a letter jointly signed by the NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, and the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Obas Edesa.
According to the letter dated April 20, 2026, the event is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
This year’s Press Week is themed: “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation.”
The union said Elumelu was chosen based on his experience as a former federal lawmaker and his consistent advocacy for democratic values, adding that his insights would enrich discussions among journalists, policymakers, civil society groups, and other stakeholders expected at the event.
The NUJ FCT Council noted that the keynote address would focus on the role of the media in strengthening democratic processes, promoting credible elections, and combating misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It expressed optimism that Elumelu would honour the invitation and contribute meaningfully to national conversations on democracy, responsible journalism, and electoral integrity.
The 2026 Press Week is expected to draw journalists, editors, media executives, government officials, development partners, and civil society organisations from across Nigeria.
