Troops neutralise two Lakurawa terrorists, recover arms in Sokoto, Katsina operations
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during a coordinated military operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation also led to the recovery of weapons and rustled livestock in separate offensives conducted across parts of Sokoto and Katsina States.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.
According to him, the troops responded to a distress call over an attempted attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri village in Tangaza LGA, allegedly by suspected Lakurawa terrorists.
He said the soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun duel, killing two of them, while others fled due to superior firepower.
“In Sokoto State, troops responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an attempt by Lakurawa Terrorist Group terrorists to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area. The troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralising two terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower,” the statement read.
Following the encounter, troops reportedly conducted a sweep of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on patrol intercepted suspected terrorists conveying rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai settlement.
The military said the operations form part of ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region.
