Ex-NUJ President Isiguzo commends security agencies, urges balanced media reporting
A former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their efforts in protecting lives and maintaining stability across the country.
Isiguzo spoke on Thursday at the National Security Summit organised by the NUJ in Abuja, noting that the ability to convene such a gathering in the Federal Capital Territory reflected ongoing improvements in the country’s security environment.
He urged journalists to exercise caution, balance and responsibility in their coverage of security issues, stressing that security operatives work under difficult and often misunderstood conditions.
According to him, personnel of the armed forces and other security agencies are ordinary citizens—fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters—who continue to serve the country despite operational challenges and should be encouraged alongside constructive scrutiny.
Isiguzo also called for sustained engagement between heads of security agencies and media executives, saying regular dialogue would improve mutual understanding and help provide better context for security-related reporting.
He added that such interactions would strengthen trust between both institutions and contribute to more informed public communication on national security matters.
