NOTAP Unveils NTIS 2.0 to Drive Technology Sovereignty in Nigeria

The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has announced the second edition of the National Technology and Innovation Summit (NTIS 2.0), scheduled for October 7 and 8, 2026, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The summit, themed “From Research to Wealth: Strengthening Innovation, Commercialization, and Technology Sovereignty in Nigeria,” is expected to bring together stakeholders from government, academia, industry, research institutions, development organisations, investment communities and the startup ecosystem.

NOTAP, an agency under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, is responsible for regulating technology transfer agreements, promoting indigenous technological capabilities, strengthening intellectual property systems, facilitating innovation and supporting the commercialisation of research and development outcomes.

According to the agency, NTIS 2.0 will provide a platform for stakeholders to examine practical ways of transforming research findings and innovative ideas into commercially viable products, services and enterprises.

The two-day event will also provide opportunities for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, collaboration and partnership development aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem and improving the country’s technological competitiveness.

Speaking on the summit, the Director-General of NOTAP, Dr Obiageli Amadiobi, said the agency was focused on strengthening the link between research, innovation and economic development.

“Our goal is to accelerate the transformation of research outputs and creative ideas into commercially viable products and services that can drive inclusive and sustainable national development,” Amadiobi said.

She added that Nigeria had significant research and innovation potential, noting that NTIS 2.0 would help unlock those opportunities through stronger collaboration among government, academia, industry and development partners.

The summit will feature ministerial addresses, keynote presentations and high-level panel discussions involving experts and policymakers in the Science, Technology and Innovation sector.

Key areas of discussion will include technology transfer, innovation commercialisation, intellectual property protection, technology sovereignty and workforce development in an increasingly artificial intelligence-driven and knowledge-based economy.

Participants will also examine ways to accelerate the commercialisation of research and development outcomes, strengthen collaboration between academia, industry and government, improve intellectual property management and technology transfer systems, and expand access to innovation financing and investment.

Other areas of focus will include indigenous technology development, local content participation, strategic partnerships and capacity development as tools for advancing Nigeria’s technology sovereignty.

The summit will feature specialised workshops and breakout sessions on intellectual property management, financing, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and innovation capacity development.

There will also be discussions on the progress of NOTAP’s Project NOVA — Nigeria Outsourcing and Value Acceleration — as well as expanded conversations around the NOTAP Local Vendor Policy as a tool for strengthening local participation across key sectors of the economy.

Exhibitions will showcase startups, universities, research institutions, technology enterprises and development partners, while hackathons and innovation pitch sessions will give young innovators and entrepreneurs opportunities to present their solutions to industry leaders and potential investors.

A dedicated innovation pavilion will further highlight emerging technologies, research breakthroughs, commercialised products and collaborative initiatives demonstrating Nigeria’s growing capacity in innovation and technology.

NOTAP said the summit reflects its continued commitment to bridging the gap between research and commercialisation and building an ecosystem capable of turning scientific discoveries into sustainable economic value.

The event is being organised by NOTAP in partnership with Crestsage Limited and other strategic stakeholders within Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.

The agency said the partnership was designed to create a world-class platform that advances its mandate on technology transfer and acquisition, innovation-driven growth and sustainable development.
