The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, is set to host a two-day media conference aimed at strengthening police-media relations and promoting responsible security communication.

The conference, organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), is scheduled for September 15 and 16, 2026, at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The event will commence at 9am daily, with Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, serving as Chief Host, while the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, AIG Victor Olaiya, will serve as host.

According to the Zone 7 Police Public Relations Office, the conference will bring together journalists, content creators, digital media professionals and other media practitioners for discussions on the changing role of the media in security communication.

Key areas of focus will include fact-based journalism, responsible security reporting, misinformation management, crisis communication, digital media practices and public safety.

The organisers said the conference was designed to provide an interactive platform for media professionals to engage with resource persons, exchange ideas, build professional networks and strengthen collaboration between the police and the media.

With only 30 participants expected, the conference is intended to encourage meaningful engagement and direct interaction among participants and facilitators.

The Zone 7 Police Command said the initiative was particularly important at a time when information can influence public perception within minutes, stressing the need for accurate and responsible communication on security matters.

The conference is expected to promote a media environment that informs the public without unnecessarily inflaming tensions, while ensuring that security-related information is reported accurately and responsibly.

The Zone 7 Police Public Relations Office therefore invited interested media professionals who are passionate about information management and the responsibilities associated with security communication to participate in the conference.

The organisers described the event with the slogan: “Two Days. Thirty Voices. One Conversation That Matters.”

For further information and updates, participants were directed to the Zone 7 Police Command’s official social media channels.
