Peter Obi’s Convoy Allegedly Attacked by Thugs in Benue

Tension reportedly gripped parts of Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road shortly after presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, arrived in the state.

The incident was disclosed by Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, who shared videos of the alleged incident on her X handle.

Umoh claimed that the incident occurred shortly after Obi and members of his entourage arrived in Benue, alleging that some individuals blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base.

According to her, the alleged blockade was aimed at preventing Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, from gaining access into the state.

“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” Umoh wrote.

A separate video shared by the aide showed some individuals running behind vehicles in the convoy.

Umoh alleged that the individuals were attempting to attack the entourage.

However, their identities and the circumstances surrounding their actions could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.

It was also unclear what triggered the incident or whether the alleged road blockade was specifically targeted at Obi’s convoy.

Neither the Benue State Government nor the state police command had publicly reacted to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
