Galatasaray threatens legal action against Mourinho over alleged racist comments
Turkish club Galatasaray have announced plans to initiate criminal proceedings against Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho, accusing him of making racist remarks following the teams’ 0-0 draw on Monday.
It remains unclear which specific statements Galatasaray is referring to.
In his post-match news conference, Mourinho claimed that the home bench had been jumping like monkeys and also reiterated his criticism of Turkish referees, stating that it would have been a disaster to use an official from Turkey.
In addition to pursuing legal action, Galatasaray announced they would file official complaints with football’s governing bodies.
On Tuesday, Fenerbahçe issued a statement defending Mourinho, claiming his comments had been completely taken out of context.
Mourinho, a two-time Champions League winner, was appointed Fenerbahçe manager last summer and had previously been banned and fined earlier this season for criticizing refereeing standards in Turkey.
