Ghanaian Lawmaker Sosu Collapses on Stage During Speech

Ghanaian lawmaker Francis-Xavier Sosu collapsed while delivering a public address at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Thursday.

Sosu, the Member of Parliament representing Madina Constituency, was speaking at the event when he suddenly appeared to lose consciousness on stage, prompting people present to rush to his assistance.

According to Citi Newsroom, the lawmaker had been speaking about his personal experiences, leadership and commitment to public service shortly before the incident.

Moments before he collapsed, Sosu told the audience, “I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark.”

He subsequently paused before appearing to collapse on stage.

People at the venue immediately moved towards the lawmaker to assist him. Footage published by CitiTV and reported by ModernGhana showed two people helping Sosu after he fell.

Sosu appeared to regain consciousness briefly and seemed prepared to continue his address. However, Citi Newsroom reported that he began to slump again shortly afterwards.

He was eventually assisted away from the stage and taken for medical attention.

Video footage from the incident showed several people gathered around the lawmaker following his collapse, while the podium was left unattended.
