Trump Rejects Global Supervision of AI, Calls It ‘Globalist Scheme’

US President Donald Trump has rejected calls for international supervision of artificial intelligence, describing the proposal as a “globalist scheme” aimed at controlling the emerging technology.

Trump made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the United Nations General Assembly.

The US president argued against international oversight of artificial intelligence, signalling opposition to efforts that would place the technology under a global supervisory framework.

During his address, Trump also announced a change in the terminology the US government would use in its official communications.

According to him, the US would henceforth refer to “artificial intelligence” as “super intelligence”, expressing the hope that other countries would adopt the terminology.

Trump’s comments come amid growing international discussions over how artificial intelligence should be developed, regulated and governed as governments seek to address the opportunities and risks associated with the rapidly evolving technology.
