Women affairs mandate secretary extols Grace Ike’s leadership qualities as Chair NUJ FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Women Affairs Mandate Secretary, Dr Adedayo Benjamins – Laniyi, has extended her heartfelt congratulations to Comrade Grace Ike, on her historic emergence via election as first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Abuja Council.
In a Congratulatory letter to Comrade Grace Ike, she stated that ” Your Emergence in this position is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and exemplary Leadership qualities, which have been evident throughout your career”.
Dr Laniyi, noted that”I’m fully aware that this journey did not begin today. Your previous Leadership roles, including Chairman House of Representatives Press Corps and Vice Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, reflects your unwavering commitment to fairness, discipline and compassion”.
“These qualities have not only endeared you to your colleagues but also earned you the overwhelming support that led to this victory, even in a contest initially dominated by male contenders”.
“Your election is particularly significant as it coincides with the #16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. This underscores the importance of your role in amplifying Gender – based issues and advocating for inclusivity within leadership, the welfare and productivity of journalists in Abuja, men, women, retirees and persons with disabilities will be enhanced”.
Dr Dayo noted that” As someone who has also broken barriers by becoming the First Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs in the 48 years history of th FCT Administration, I understand the unique challenges and high expectations that comes with such a pioneering role. However, I am confident that you are well prepared to navigate these challenges and exceed expectations, given the massive support you have garnered and your proven track record of leadership”.
In conclusion She assured that the ” FCT Women Affairs Secretariat and the entire Federal Capital Territory Administration stand ready to support you in this noble task. Together, we will work to ensure that gender – based issues are properly articulated and addressed”.
