Singer Portable bags three months jail term
Popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been convicted and handed a three-month jail term by a Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo, Ogun State.
The ruling, delivered by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo on Tuesday, followed a three-count charge bordering on assault and theft of musical equipment, as detailed in charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.
Portable was first arraigned in April 2023 and granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with two family sureties. However, he was remanded last week after repeatedly failing to appear for court proceedings.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on November 18, 2022, in the Okeosa, Ilogbo area of Ifo Magisterial District, where Portable and a group of others allegedly attacked one Emmanuel Oluwafemi and made away with studio equipment.
Magistrate Ilo found the singer guilty on two of the three counts. For Count 1, which involved conspiracy to assault, Portable was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of a N10,000 fine. On Count 2, concerning unlawful assault, he received a two-month prison sentence with the option of a N20,000 fine.
