JUST-IN: EFCC grants administrative bail to VeryDarkMan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained the circumstances surrounding the arrest of popular social commentator Martins Innocent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
In a statement released by the agency, the EFCC stated that Otse was invited following a series of petitions it received, all involving various allegations of financial crimes levelled against him. Despite several invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels, the suspect failed to appear before the Commission.
According to the EFCC, the petitions carry serious claims of financial misconduct that the agency cannot overlook. It further acknowledged being aware of Otse’s frequent verbal attacks against its operations but made it clear that his arrest had nothing to do with those remarks. The Commission noted that any issues arising from his comments would be addressed by the appropriate law enforcement agency.
The anti-graft agency emphasised that it acted within its legal authority to detain Otse, adding that a proper remand order was secured to keep him in custody while investigations continue.
“He has been offered administrative bail and would be released once he meets the conditions attached to the bail,” the statement added.
The EFCC appreciated the public’s keen interest in its activities and the reactions surrounding Otse’s arrest, but urged Nigerians to avoid speculating about the agency’s intentions.
“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour. As soon as investigations are concluded, charges will be filed,” the Commission stated.
