Governor Bago teams up with Nourishing Nigeria Project to boost farming in Niger State

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has announced a new partnership with the Nourishing Nigeria Project to support farming and improve food security across the state.
During a visit from the project team at the Government House in Minna, Governor Bago said working with organisations like Nourishing Nigeria Project will help move the state’s agricultural plans forward. He called agriculture the backbone of Niger State’s economy and said teaming up with experts will bring better harvests, help people earn more, and support environmentally friendly farming.
The governor thanked the Nourishing Nigeria team for choosing Niger State as one of its starting points. He said the project fits well with his government’s plan to set up school farms that aim to improve children’s nutrition and education.
Bago also praised the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for its support. He promised that his administration will expand every sample farm created by the project tenfold, making sure more communities benefit from the programme.
Speaking at the event, project coordinator Nuhu Adamu Kilishi from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture praised the governor’s efforts to make food more secure. He explained that the project will focus on crops, fish farming, and poultry—especially for women and children.
Kilishi also spoke about a second programme called ANRiN 2.0, supported by the World Bank, which aims to use farming to improve nutrition in 21 states, including Niger.
This partnership marks another step in Governor Bago’s mission to grow Niger State’s agricultural sector and build a better future through farming.
