EPL Round-Up: Liverpool, Chelsea, Palace clinch European spots as 2024–25 Season concludes
The final day of the 2024–25 English Premier League season delivered high drama, last-minute goals, and emotional farewells, setting the stage for English clubs’ participation in European competitions for the 2025–26 campaign.
With league positions and domestic cup results now confirmed, England’s representatives on the continent have been officially determined.
Six Premier League clubs will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season—five securing qualification through their league finishes and one earning a spot by lifting a European trophy.
Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions under new manager Arne Slot, marking a return to the elite stage of European football. Arsenal secured second place following a strong run-in, while Manchester City finished third after a final-day win over Fulham. Chelsea, revitalised under Enzo Maresca, climbed into fourth after a crucial victory against Nottingham Forest. Despite losing on the final day, Newcastle United edged Aston Villa to fifth place on goal difference.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, booked their Champions League place by winning the UEFA Europa League, qualifying automatically despite finishing outside the top five domestically.
Crystal Palace produced one of the season’s most unexpected triumphs by winning the FA Cup, a feat that earns the South London club a place in the UEFA Europa League. Aston Villa, who had qualified for the Champions League this season, will instead return to the Europa League after finishing sixth in the league.
Nottingham Forest rounded off a memorable campaign by sealing a spot in the UEFA Conference League. While they had ambitions for a higher-tier competition, their return to European football is a significant milestone.
With the 2024–25 season now in the books, attention turns to Europe as English clubs prepare for another campaign of continental competition in 2025–26.
