FG begins payment of ₦44,000 arrears to former NYSC Members

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of ₦44,000 in minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling an earlier promise linked to the upward review of the monthly corps members’ allowance.

The payment follows the increase in the monthly stipend for serving corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, which took effect in March 2025. Although the new rate began officially this year, the government had pledged to settle arrears for those who completed their service before the adjustment was implemented.

Confirming the development, NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to clearing all outstanding entitlements owed to former corps members. He explained that once funds were made available, payments would be credited directly into the bank accounts of eligible ex-corps members, whose details are already documented with the scheme.

Several former corps members took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday to confirm receipt of the ₦44,000 arrears, with many expressing gratitude and relief after months of anticipation.

This move is part of broader efforts by the federal government to implement new wage policies and improve welfare for both serving and former members of the NYSC, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
