Gov Bala Mohammed partners UBEC to boost Basic Education in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving basic education during a visit to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the meeting, the governor emphasized the critical role of foundational learning in national development, stating, “Without basic education, nothing works.”
Governor Mohammed highlighted Bauchi State’s significant contribution to education, noting that it not only serves its people but also accommodates pupils from neighbouring states. He stressed the need for schools to remain open, properly equipped, and staffed with qualified teachers to meet rising educational demands in the region.
The governor expressed appreciation for UBEC’s continued support, especially through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, which he credited for enhancing infrastructure, increasing school enrollment, and improving teacher training. He also disclosed that Bauchi has remained consistent in accessing and utilizing its UBEC matching grants, reflecting the state’s proactive and transparent approach to education funding.
Responding, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, applauded Bauchi State’s effective management of federal grants. She commended the governor for constructing “mega schools” equipped with modern learning facilities and for prioritizing the recruitment of qualified teachers to uplift education quality.
Dr. Garba assured Governor Mohammed of UBEC’s readiness to deepen its collaboration with Bauchi, describing the state’s efficient use of education funds as a shining example for others across the country.
The visit reinforced Bauchi’s status as a leader in education reform and demonstrated how strong partnerships between state governments and federal agencies can deliver meaningful improvements in access to quality education for all children, within and beyond state boundaries.
