Two dead, dozens displaced as torrential rain wreaks havoc in Borno

At least two persons have lost their lives following a heavy downpour that triggered massive flooding in Gumsuri and Wovi communities, both located in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The flood, which occurred on Sunday after nearly 13 hours of uninterrupted rainfall, left many residents displaced and caused serious damage to properties.
Several homes in both communities were either badly damaged or completely submerged in water, forcing families to flee in search of safer shelter.
Preliminary reports indicate that about half of the residential buildings in the affected areas have been swept away or heavily affected by the disaster.
Many victims were left stranded without food, clothing, or access to medical care.
A resident of Gumsuri described the situation as tragic and called on government authorities, humanitarian organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to urgently intervene by providing temporary shelter, food, and healthcare for the displaced.
“We are overwhelmed by this tragedy. Many people have lost everything, and we fear that more bodies may still be discovered as the search continues,” a community elder lamented.
According to local reports, emergency response teams have since been dispatched to assess the extent of damage and determine the actual number of casualties.
Renowned security analyst, Zagazola Makama, confirmed that rescue operations were ongoing in the affected areas as officials work to support displaced families and restore some order.
