UBEC moves to strengthen Basic Education delivery through new partnership

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Aisha Garba, says discussions are underway on a partnership aimed at improving the quality of basic education in Nigeria.
Garba revealed this in a post on her official X account on Friday after meeting with the President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria and officials of the African Institute for Solutions and Development.
She said the delegation presented a proposed Strategic Partnership Framework to support the World Bank–backed HOPE Project, which focuses on expanding access, improving quality, and upgrading infrastructure in basic education.
According to her, the framework offers evidence-based solutions, including turnkey toolkits, technical expertise, and capacity-building programmes, to enhance UBEC’s capacity to deliver on its mandate nationwide.
She explained that these measures would equip the commission with ready-to-use educational resources, specialist guidance, and staff training to boost its effectiveness.
Highlighting a shared vision with the visiting institutions, Garba said both sides are committed to promoting quality basic education and sustainable development through research and innovation.
She noted that the African Institute for Solutions and Development’s ongoing studies on out-of-school children would provide vital data for targeted interventions.
By leveraging accurate data, she added, UBEC could better determine the scale and causes of the out-of-school challenge and design more effective solutions.
Garba reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind while driving sustainable improvements in Nigeria’s basic education sector.
