AEDC staff electrocuted to death during routine power maintenance in Utako
An Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) staff member was electrocuted and burnt to death on Wednesday while working on a transformer opposite Haribina Hotel in Utako, Abuja.
According to report by an eyewitness, the transformer feeder had been opened to allow maintenance, but the worker was fatally struck when an unexpected surge of electricity occurred, causing a devastating explosion.
The victim was reportedly burnt beyond recognition.
Officials from the Utako NEPA office (now AEDC) are currently at the scene, coordinating emergency and investigative responses.
The circumstances leading to the sudden flow of electricity while the technician was working are still being investigated.
As at the time of this report, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) is yet to release an official statement.
